the grocery list

In one of the discussion in our yahoogroup, one sister from n@w, started a thread on how to save or tips that you learned from your mom on budgeting. On my part, it is not really my mom who does the budgeting in our home. It is more of my dad who allots the money but it is my mom who does the implementation.

One thing that I learned from dad is to have a list with me whenever I go to the market or grocery. He pointed out that I should always prioritize what's on my list before buying any other items. Whenever I go to the market, I make it a point to haggle for the price... if I can't, I try to ask for freebies instead. In terms of doing the grocery, since I can't haggle there, I tend to look for items with promotional products. Like if the toothpaste comes a free toothbrush, and we use both items, I get that one rather than buy these items separately. In addition, (this I got from the yahoogroup) you should also bring a calculator with you. This will help you make sure that you do not go overboard your budget and really prioritize your list.
