cellphone scam
I was almost scammed yesterday...
How?
I received a text message that goes:
'Andito ako sa hospital ngayon. Si Lyn ito, loadan mo naman ako ng P115 emergency lang talaga. New number ko ito.'
I tried to recall who among my 'Lyn' friends knew about my smart number (which I seldom use) since I tend to give my globe number to most of my acquaintances and friends.
I replied with: 'Sinong Lyn po ito'
The texter replied: 'Sino ba yung pinakakilala mong Lyn?'
This gave me a hunch that it is a scam. If it was really one of my friends, then it would be very easy for them to give a family name and would not beat around the bush since it was an emergency situation. I decided to ride with the texter and sent another message: 'I think you have a family name naman di ba? Kasi if you are really in an emergency situation at kilala kita I would even send you P300 load. Meron pa ako dito extra na hindi ko pa nagagamit'
I didn't receive any reply from the texter again after that message. I tried calling the number but it was already out of reach. I sent another message, pang sutil: 'I tried calling your number pero naka-off na. Nag-aantay pa naman yung load mo.'
After around 20 minutes or so, the texter replied 'Send u na load now'... asa pa sya!!! I insisted that he/she give me a family name first before I send the load but s/he didn't reply na uli.
*-*
Grabe! Why do people have to do such things para lang manggulang ng kapwa? Are they simply trying to fool people to get easy money or are they doing it to test if they can get money that easy?
